In summer 2006 I got
married. Not long after the wedding the talk of babies came from
friends… not family. They've always let me get on with things in my own timing.
Hubby and I often wondered which of us our kids would take after in appearance... so
did our friends. I wondered how they (my children) would be perceived and how
they would perceive themselves or me for that matter. Round about the year it
came into being (2007) or maybe the year after, I heard about Color blind
Cards. Their ethos and images spoke to me. They were presenting positive
multi-racial images to the masses via their greeting cards. Although I wasn't a
mother at the time, I had an interest in anything that would make the world a better
place for my children.
Interesting Fact:
the name of the company came from the founder’s, Jessica Huie, daughter Monet.
Out of the mouth of babes as the saying goes.
Straight away I
started looking for the cards on my high-street. I was pleased to find that my
local Clintons Cards stocked a few cards from the range. Since its inception, the company
has gone from strength to strength. Today, Color blind Cards has an online personalized
service, as well as a range of different products from babygrows to fridge
magnets.
I embrace the
multi-cultural multi-racial life-style. Coming from the twin island Republic of
Trinidad & Tobago where we say ‘all
ah we is Callaloo’: a metaphor based on a soup that is popular on the island. All the ingredients come together to make the dish, in this case the beautiful tapestry that is a multi-racial community. And so I bring to you my readers Color blind Cards. See here a few samples:
